Fine dust from Rotterdam is used to make enamel for ceramics. The color of the particulate matter makes the poor air quality visible, and even tangible.

Because using tableware – breakfast plates and coffee cups – is an ordinary and intimate part of daily life akin to breathing, a tableware service was chosen as the means to raise awareness of air pollution. The project is not only focused on the practical result of the design of a series of tableware items, but also on developing a ‘communicative instrument’.
