Ignorance is Bliss

‘Ignorance is Bliss’ reincorporates value of metal waste from the industries, such as water treatment plants and soil remediation companies, into pigments for new valuable products and methods. Metals are crucial to our world, and, unfortunately, a non-renewable resource.

The collection consists of porcelain tableware, woven textiles, and ceramic interior wall tiles, which are the representation of small and large-scale applications of such a waste. The colors are retrieved purely by using just pigments from waste. In this project, surprisingly, the more contaminated the raw material, the greater the potential is for the designed objects. Currently ‘valueless’ and even toxic metal waste can be recovered in a functional, process-efficient, scalable way and challenge the present industries of mass production.
