Hollow Tube Technique

Studio Dirk van der Kooij

Dirk van de Kooij is researching whether recycled materials can be used in a pulverised form, to which auxiliary materials are added directly, making energy-intensive processing of recycled materials unnecessary.

With a robotic arm, Dirk van der Kooij prints plastic furniture. His most recent technique is the hollow tube technique. The NotOnlyHollow Chair, produced in a limited edition of 25, is made of old pulverised CDs. To serve as the base material for a delicate process like the hollow tube technique, the CDs must first be sorted, pulverised and regranulated.
